A few days ago, I did an entry about the sentiments of the people in the porn industry. Turns out, I was Right! People working in the industry are enthusiastic to put a stop in the unending piracy of porn. They started taking legal actions against movie thieves. So I got this article from digg.com; and decided to post it in my blog page.

Whats so funny is the comments of some of the readers. One guy actually says that he “pirates porn because he doesn’t want to pay for sex..” Sheesh It’s like saying that if he sees a cheaply priced can opener in Walter Mart, he’s gonna steal it. Some people’s ways to rationalize their bad behavior amazes me..

Another Guy commented: “they should change the plot” (or something like that). I got one thing to say: It’s just a matter of choice; Cheap people opt for cheap things, dear. Why pirate something in the first place if you find it cheap? Figure that out, Einstein! You ought to thank these porn people for giving you consolation for your boner and giving you some fun in your lifeless fucked up nights, you ungrateful loser, you.. You want classy porn? Turn to the classic vintage porn! Vintage porn is not called the golden age of porn for nothing. They got elaborate productions, great plots and beautiful actresses! The porn industry is sick of people pirating its content, and some players in the industry have finally decided to take an official stand against it. A group of 65 producers, attorneys, and other industry members held a piracy conference last week, billed as one of the first major roundtables for the industry to get together and address what has become a big problem for porn sales.

The porn industry has quietly coexisted with P2P services for many years, something that attorney Greg Piccionelli says has resulted in a very difficult environment for producers today. “The lack of enforcement over the years has left the pirates and consumers with the impression that copying and stealing adult content is something that has absolutely no punitive consequence associated with it whatsoever, and so the industry has really sort of dug its own grave to this degree,” he said to the panel, according to the AVN Media Network.

With sales tanking quickly over the past several years in favor of free alternatives, the industry is now trying to figure out ways to stay afloat. Piccionelli estimates that no more than 15 or 20 percent of the porn in the wild is legitimate—for an estimated $50 billion industry, that could mean a lot in lost sales, although it is highly debatable whether many of those downloading XXX features on their P2P network of choice would have purchased those titles instead.

Attendees at the conference were split over how exactly to compete against pirates, however. Some wanted to focus on stopping piracy—a noble goal indeed—and one company even set up a web site for producers to post screenshots of pirated content for potential future use in lawsuits. “It’s for any kind of stolen content,” Shane’s World VP Megan Stokes said. “[W]ith the time-stamp and the screenshot, it’s something that we can start using as evidence in court cases.”

Others hoped to learn new ways to adapt to digital distribution. “One of the ways of dealing with it is […] an iTunes kind of situation where you have scene sales at a low enough price that appropriately deters people from stealing it,” said Piccionelli. He also said that the industry could start to pair pirateable material—the movies—with nonpirateable material, such as t-shirts and other items to make legit sales more attractive. One thing that he doesn’t want to focus on, however, is DRM, noting something that Hollywood still has yet to acknowledge: “I worry about [the producers] coming up with DRM or technological solutions, because they’re not going to work.”

The panel appointed a small group of producers to continue talks on the topic and attempt to get more studios involved in the industry movement against piracy. “If we all do it together, we’ll be able to make a lot bigger impact,” Stokes told AVN.

Surfing around I found a site called SuperDVDMart.com, its a wholesale website aimed at small shop owners. The shops I am talking about are video retailers, liquor stores, and pretty much any store that can sell adult DVD’s.

I found it really interesting as to how the adult DVD lots are sold. The adult DVD’s are not sold by individual title and you do not really know what individual videos are included. What you buy are lots of 10, 20, 100 and 1000 DVD’s… mixed videos in a certain niche.

I guess quantity is the seperator between retail and wholesale. but if a person just loved watching movies of certain niches, say lesbian, as an example, without really caring about the title or studio, then they can get a great deal from wholesalers like SuperDVDMart.com.

The prices are bargain basement… for real! for 90 bucks you can get 50 titles… less than 2 bucks a movie! and some are even less.

I can see how small retail shops love these kinds of DVD packs. for 90 bucks you can buy a lot of 50 adult titles, put em on the shelf, and sell them for 5.99 each (thats a huge profit) and at 5.99, its still a great deal for the consumer buying them.

anyway, I thought it was an interesting business opportunity for anyone who owns a store or shop. I have friends who have put adult dvd’s into thier stores and they are the ones who even told me about these “lots” or “xxx dvd packs“. Now these are not the same as the feature DVD’s you buy for 40 bucks a piece, but still worthwhile…. if you really love watching tons of movies
